The Northman Movie – About Story, Rating & Revenue

“The Northman” is a film the place there’s rage within the mud; It’s a visceral movie stuffed with addendum within the inescapable deep realms of nature: animal, elemental and most harshly, human.

Nevertheless, this isn’t the journey of an ideal hero with an extravagant royal. Amaleth is in a special, hard-hit-or-kill period, the place no larger honour can come to a king than dying with a blade.

The Northman is a 2022 American historic fiction movie directed by Robert Eggers, who co-wrote the screenplay with Sojan. Based mostly on the legend of Amleth, the movie stars co-producers Alexander Skarsgard, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Pleasure, Ethan Hawke, Björk and Willem Dafoe. The plot follows Amleth, a Viking prince who units out on a quest to avenge his father’s homicide.

It’s misleading to explain “The Northman” as director Robert Eggers’ most accessible movie. The filmmaker’s earlier works—the prissy illusions of “The Witch” and the desolate, mermaid paganism of “The Lighthouse”—comprise conventional macabre American folklore for the unconventional, ambient freak-out. “The Northman” replicates the perfect of these movies, although to much less impact.

  1. I don’t have much to say about The Northman except for this – you owe it to yourself to watch it. In my opinion, The Northman is not only the best Viking movie ever made, but could also very well be one of the best Historical Epics ever brought to film. This historically authentic and beautiful film is near flawless in every regard; I’m serious, It is really that good. Watch this movie, films like this deserve far more support than they’ve had.

  2. This movie is a unique and astounding cinematic experience. The story is simple: Amleth witnesses the death of his father (murdered by his uncle) and manages to escape to avoid his own death. As a man who lost everything (father, mother, kingdom) , once grown up, sets off in search of revenge. Eggers take inspiration from an ancient Icelandic saga of revenge to stage a unique show: the film is a stunning visual spectacle, Eggers’ aesthetic sense is truly sublime and the film turns out to be a perfectly balanced mix between the narrative component and the dream component which leaves you speechless and it is nothing more than the culmination of a careful staging of Viking rituals and folklore. The images Eggers offers to us are beautiful paintings, the editing is perfect and Jarin Blaschke’s cinematography is stellar. The acting of each actor (Skarsgård in primis) is as good as it gets. This film is an absolute masterpiece of the epic genre and a long ride of a Valkyrie towards Valhalla. 3 out of 3 for Eggers got his three works (two masterpieces and a half masterpiece)

  3. Everything feels strange, savage, implacably other: royalty alongside slavery, formality prized yet pity nowhere to be found. The Northman seems so foreign, as it should. Yet what Eggers never forgets, and this does almost as much as his talent does to make his film so frequently compelling, is that what to the characters is mundane is to us unreal — and vice versa.

  4. While I did enjoy the movie immensely, this movie is not for everyone. If you’re not a fan of Eggers’ work, maybe read a review first. My gf did not enjoy herself.

If you’ve seen The VVitch or The Lighthouse, both done by Eggers, you almost know what you’re in for. It’s not quite the abstract movie Green Knight was, by far, but there are fantastic elements that make you wonder “is this really happening”?

All in all, I appreciate the movie for showing you EXACTLY what Viking culture was all about and it is GRITTY as heck. Some of the scenes had me in tears how awesome they were, like when a Valkyrie carries off a half dead warrior. Really well done tribute to the lore.
